Keeping the Storm at Bay
November 2, 2017
By: Brock Leighton

Fresh off their first win, the Arran-Elderslie Ice Dogs Atom White team hit the ice against the Saugeen Shores Storm #2 team on a rainy November night.

The Ice Dogs struck first with Lucas S chipping in first assisted by his other bash brother Leithan B. The Storm were quick to bounce back scoring a goal less than 30 seconds later.  This didn’t phase the determined Dogs as they scored 21 seconds later with Nick P getting his second of the year assisted by Dylan P.  The Dogs continued to lay on the pressure in the first period with another goal by Lucas S via a great pass from rookie Sean W.

The Ice Dogs started off the second period in a similar fashion to the first, with a beautiful face off win by Chris P going back to his defence partner Andersen G.  Anderson G took the puck up the ice and across the Storm blueline and flipped it back over to winger Leithan B who put a laser beam shot past the Storm’s sprawling goalie.  The Storm continued to try to climb back into the race with a beautiful shot just narrowly beating the Dogs goalie Owen W.  This seemed to ignite some passion on the bench and the Dogs fought hard to return the favour less than a minute later with Lucas S notching his first ‘hatty’ of the year unassisted.  The Storm continued to pressure the Ice Dogs with a flurry of shots late into the second, but Owen W stood on his head to keep the Storm at bay.  The Ice Dogs were finally able to get out of their zone through a great defensive breakout by Tyler B, cycling the puck up the boards and out of our zone to get an eventual face-off due to the Storm going offside.   Ryan S was solid on defence throughout the gam e and narrowly missed a beauty on a great end to end rush leading to a face off in the Storms zone.  The Storm were able to quickly clear the puck into the Ice Dogs end but Nayal M was quick to dig the puck off the boards and saucer’d one over to fellow defence parter Dylan P who was quick to jump into action with a great rush down the ice weaving in and out of multiple Storm players to beat the goalie with a sliding beauty. The Ice Dogs continued to beat down the Storm with Cole L scoring a dandy with 26 seconds left.

The Ice Dogs bench was eager to start the third period and this culminated in another Ice Dogs goal by Kaden C and assisted by Cole L with some great fore-checking.  Some time would pass before the Storm would strike next by other another shot just narrowly beating the Dogs determined tender.  Dylan P jumped up from defence on another great rush with less than three minutes left and eventually slid one past the Storms goalie to make the score for the Ice Dogs 9-3.  The Storm didn’t let up and got the last bang with #14 scoring their third off the night, so hat’s off.

This represents the second win in a row for the Ice Dogs Atom White with the Owen Sound Attack Jr up next in Attack Land this Saturday.  We hope to see you all there…
