Cardiac Kids Go to Overtime Again!
The Novice White IceDogs faced off in a back to back with the IceDog Black Team in Chesley on Tuesday night.
The last game these two teams played (last Saturday) was a tight checking affair with limited chances at both ends. But tonight, it was fire wagon hockey by both teams. The Black Team would get on the board first when Symon J. read a clearing pass and fired a low, hard shot by IceDog White netminder Dylan L. Jake F. decided to go coast to coast on the very next shift and buried a howitzer and got the White Team on the board. The newly formed trio of Porter B, Brayden P and Carter M. played a little tic-tac-toe with Carter finishing the play off with a nifty deke and IceDog White was up 2-1. The Black Team would tie things up with a late goal and the period ended with things knotted up at 2.
Both teams tightened up their defensive play in the 2nd period and now it was the goalies turn to shine. Once again, Aiden S. and Dylan L. made several larcenous saves to keep the teams tied at 2's. Vivian W., parked out in the high slot all night long would get a hold of one but Aiden S. steered it aside. Dylan L. would rob the Black attackers time and time again until Conner B. snuck one in to put the Black Team up 3-2 as the period came to a close.
With the IceDog White Team trailing in the third for the 5th game in a row, it was time to go to work. A IceDog White penalty gained them some momentum and Jesse P would sneak one home after a sweet dish from Brayden P. The Black Team would regain the lead shortly after and the White Team was trailing late....again. But, a late penalty to the Black Team, a time-out and a pulled tender got the White's the break they needed. Waylon G. would keep the puck inside the line and feed Brayden who nicked the twine to tie things up at 4 and this game was headed to overtime.
The Black Team had a great bounce back shift to start the OT period and carried most of the play. After a terrific stop by Dylan L., the Black Team found a loose puck in the crease and Elsa buried it to give the Black Team the 5-4 win.
The IceDog White team will finish the round robin 3-2 and will face Saugeen Shores #1 in the Championship Final. Stay tuned for the details...tickets should be on sale soon.
