Good Showing in the Elroy Cummings Novice Tournament
This past weekend the Novice Rep IceDogs took part in the AEMHA Elroy Cummings Novice Tournament.

The boys started out on Friday against a tough team from Ripley.  It was a tight checking affair with the occasional end to end rush.  They stayed in the game, not giving up and ended up losing 4-0 to a team that has over 100 goals already in the season.

On Saturday the IceDogs were up against familiar foes - the Bruce Peninsula Predators.  This one was a little more open with both teams trading chances.  The IceDogs got out to an early 2-0 lead, only to see the Predators close the gap and tie it up late in the third.  With a minute left Ethan S. picks up a loose puck and fires it passed a sprawling Predator goalie for the IceDogs to win the game 3-2.

The next day the IceDogs met up in the Consolation final against the South Bruce Blades.  The boys were ready to go.  Right off the first face off. Gryphon B. won the draw over to Karden C. who took the puck over the blue line, back to Gryphon B. who then dished it off to Owen M. who drilled one short side.  The whole play took only 15 seconds. The boys were fired up and the crowd as well.

Although they gave it their best - leaving everything they had on the ice, the IceDogs came up short in the end. Though the effort dictated a much different outcome, the IceDogs showed great sportsmanship in the loss.

The coaching staff are very proud of the way their players played this tournament.  The lessons learned and the adversity that this team has had to overcome only shows how much desire and determination these young players have.

Great tournament.  Let's keep it going!
