Hockey Day Excitement
Today was hockey day in Arran-Elderslie.  It was also the start of the regular season for the Novice Rep Ice Dogs.

If the first game is any indication of things to come then boy are we in for an entertaining season!

The Bruce Peninsula Predators traveled down for an afternoon game vs the Ice Dogs.  They were ready to play. They got out to a 1-0 start early in the first, then E. Sopkowe banged one in for the first Ice Dog goal of the season!  The Predators weren't done yet.  They got a couple more and at the mid way point of the second the Ice Dogs were down 3-1 and running out of ideas on how to solve the Predators goalie who was standing on his head...
The Ice Dogs were not worried though.  There was no fear on the bench. Cue the comeback...
Halfway through the second O. Molnar broke loose and rifled one by the goalie.  At the end of the second it was 3-2 for the visitors.
Ice Dog goalie P. Lewis decided he wasn't going to let anything get by himanymore.   Although both teams had end to end rushes, nothing was getting by these goalies.  With hope running out, at the 3 minute mark of the third, K. Calhoun found himself all alone in front of the net. And with a backhand to forehand move, buried the pack in the corner of the net to tie it up!  Crowd goes wild!
With everyone thinking that's it nothing more can happen and the game will end with in a tie, A. Fritz decides to take the game in his hand...
With a minute to go Fritz picks up the puck in the Ice Dog end, rushes up the right side, chips the puck past the defenseman and finds himself alone with only the goalie to beat.  A forehand to backhand move and he taps the puck into the corner to put the Ice Dogs up by one.

The Predators pull their goalie and have enough time for one more rush, ending with a bullet of a shot heading for the top corner far side just as the buzzer goes, goalie P.Lewis snags the puck out of the air to preserve the win!

What a game! Everyone one played great.  Very exciting.  These 2 meet up next Saturday in Wiarton.  Should be another dandy!
