It's Been A Very Exciting Week Of Hockey!
It has been a busy week for the Atom Red team this week as they played four games in the last seven days.  Not only was it a busy week it was an exciting week as it saw some very close games with two ties and two wins, and some firsts for the team! On the 14th of Jan. our team hosted the TCDMHA Rebels in Chesley.  We had played against them in our previous game coming out with a record 3 goals in 29 seconds to take the victory, and the coaches we certain this game would be just as close.

The Ice dogs started out strong and stayed strong through the entire game opening the scoring in the first period at 6:35 with a goal by Ben M.  assisted by Emmett H..  Then scoring again at 2:11 with the roles reversed was Emmett H. assisted by Ben M..  Taking us to the end of the first period ahead by two.  In the second period The Ice Dogs would go back on the attack overwhelming the Rebels with their fore check.  They would increase their lead by one more in the second with a goal by Kiernan L. assisted by Avery D. at 5:45 .   Into the third they would again add to the lead with an unassisted goal by Avery D. at 11:19, and then a second goal by Avery D. assisted by Lauren J. at 9:47 bringing the total Score to 5-0 Ice Dogs.  With some good defensive play and very hard work the Dogs worked to protect their goalie Noah J. and with some great saves by Noah J.  he would earn his first official career shutout win!  Congratulations Noah!!!!!!!

Game two would see the Ice Dogs travel to Shallow Lake on Sunday afternoon to play against the Lakers 1 team.  It was a fiercely played game with no scoring in the first period, both goalies turning away all attempts to find the back of the net.  Period two would turn out to be a very high scoring affair.  With a total of eight goals scored in ten minutes by both teams it is hard to keep track of who was ahead when, and for how long.  Shallow Lake scored first at 8:59, but the Ice Dog's Maddux O. would come right back off of the centre ice face off and even the score at 8:52 unassisted.  The tie was short lived as the Lakers stormed back and scored again at 8:30, and then again at 6:35.  At 5:50 the Ice Dogs would get back to within one with Maddux O. sending it home assisted by Levi W..  At 5:02 the Dogs would bring the score back to a tie with a goal by Kiernan L. assisted by Ben M. and Avery D..  The tie again would be short lived as the Lakers found a hole at 2:11 to go back up by one.  Not to be out done our boys refused to give up and returned the favour to the Lakers and even the score again at 1:21 with Avery D. getting the mark assisted by Ben M. Bringing the total score after two to a 4-4 tie.   Period 3 would do nothing more than add grey hairs to parents and coaches alike as the goalies settled back in at both ends and bricked up the nets completely stopping everything sent their way.  Final score ending up 4-4.

Game three brought our team back home to face the Shallow Lake 2 team.  In yet another hotly contested tightly played game our boys struggled a little early on allowing the Lakers to find an opening and sneak one past net minder Noah J. to go ahead by one at 9:43.  After this the team would settle down into a nice groove and at 3:02 Kiernan L. would even the score with an unassisted tally.  Period two was a goaltenders show at both ends with Noah J. turning away everything sent his way.  In the third the Lakers would score one  more early on at 12:38.  Not giving up, our team keep playing hard and at 10:40 Kiernan L. would add his second goal of the game to tie the score at two.  Just over a minute later the Lakers would go ahead again slipping on in at 9:30.  The time clock continued to tick away, and just a sShallow Lake was beginning to think they had it won Kiernan L. would take the pass from Lauren J. , go up ice and fire home his third goal of the game with just 41 seconds remaining in the game.  This is how it would stay for the last 41 seconds, and the game would end tied at 3.

Game four had the Ice Dogs in Owen Sound to play the Jr. Attack.  It was a somewhat one sided affair, with our team overpowering the Attack right from the opening face off.   It would, however see another first as Rachel L. would find her way onto the game sheet with a gorgeous pass to Maddux O. on our sixth goal.  It would also be Noah J's. second shutout of the season,  with a win of 7-0 and goals scored by Maddux O., Kiernan L., and Ben M., other assists going to Dominick E. and Avery D..

If you missed some of these firsts, come out and watch as our team plays its final regular season game Thurs. night in Tara at 7pm against our old adversaries the Bruce Peninsula Predators.  With a 3-2 win in our last meeting it is sure to be a great game.  Come on out and cheer us on!
