Novice Rep Kick Off Consolation Round with a Win!
The Novice Rep Ice Dogs are in the Consolation Round and they kicked off the round robin series against the Zurich Thunder on Saturday morning.
These two teams last played each other at the AEMHA Novice Tournament in January and it didn't take long for them to renew their rivalry.
The Ice Dogs started quickly when Cole L laid a beautiful pass into the neutral zone to Landon B. Landon B. would streak into the Thunder Zone and blow one by the goaltender for a 1-0 lead. Not long after that, Cole and Owen W. would do the dirty work in the corner and feed Landon out front for a one-timer (a la Brett Hull) and it was 2-0 Ice Dogs at the intermission.
The Ice Dogs kept coming to start the 2nd, and the line of of Austin L., Brayden P and Owen W. were buzzing in the Thunder zone with Austin and Brayden coming close to giving the Ice Dogs a 3-0 lead. Landon struck again midway through the 2nd and the Ice Dogs got that elusive 3-0 lead. Zurich would respond with a goal of their own after a flurry of saves by Peyton L.
The third period was a back and forth affair and Zurich would score again to pull within a goal as the third period ticked away. The 'Dogs played textbook defence and orchestrated some lovely breakouts out of their own end to keep the Thunder off the puck. They would hold on for a 3-2 win and get the first win of the consolation round robin series.
The 'Dogs travel to Zurich tomorrow (Sunday) for the 2nd game of the round robin.
