Novice Rep Tangle With the Walkerton Capitals
It was a highly anticipated re-match on Saturday morning as the Novice Rep Ice Dogs hosted the Walkerton Capitals.
The Ice Dogs came out flying in this one and were all over the puck and the Capitals, winning puck battles all over the ice. Landon B. would just miss putting the Dogs up by 1 early as the puck just grazed the post. The Capitals bent but didn't break and grabbed a 2 goal lead by the end of the period but it was the Dogs with all the momentum in the first period.
The second period saw the Ice Dogs fall behind 3-0 when the line of Ian M, Landon B and Owen W. would go to work. Ian would pick up a loose puck and throw a nice sauce pass to Landon who would rip a backhand by the Walkerton goalie to get the Ice Dogs on the board. The Ice Dogs would continue to win puck battles and Ice Dog goalie Peyton L was making some larcenous saves to keep the Ice Dogs in the game. Ethan S. and Austin L. back checked ferociously as the Captials tried to get to the Ice Dog net. As the 2nd period came to an end, Owen M. would just miss banging in his first of the year as the puck came to him in front of the net and took a Walkerton bounce off his stick.
The third saw the Capitals start to grab some of the momentum back from the Ice Dogs and they would score again to open up their lead. The Ice Dogs kept working and played one of their best games of the year, but the Capitals defence was relentless and unbending and it was Walkerton skating off with the victory.
Great work Ice Dogs! There was a lot of won puck battles and another victory is right around the corner!
