The Drive Overtake The Dogs
Milverton trekked to Chesley for one of our later games and both teams played another fine game.  This back and forth game was a great one to cheer for!  It had to go to overtime and this time, it was theirs.  Final: 5 to 6.

The Milverton Drive and the Arran Elderslie IceDogs met for the third time in Chesley.  From the first drop of the puck, the Dogs hustled into their end and returned again and again.  Clayton had a nice "how's it goin'?" and Brett and Mitch had a great "almost".  IceDogs made it very exciting for the Drive when there were two penalties forty seconds apart, with two of our strong playmakers, Corson and Mitch.  This would required some serious penalty killing play.  The Drive took advantage of this situation and were first Ton the board with a rebound.  0 to 1.  Still short a skater, Tyson was put tested, but handled it beautifully and Corson was back on the line to clear the puck.  Defense was strong the whole period.  Dan at 3:03, was a demonstration in good defensive sweep.    However, the Dogs couldn't get on the board....yet.

If the IceDogs found the first period to be frustrating, it was now Milverton's turn.  They couldn't get a shot through our traffic and Bradley made a great stop using his ankle bone.  But the Drive kept coming and it would soon be 0 to 2.  The Dogs weren't quitting either.  At 5:46, with a pass from Brett who then distracted the defense, Will got the puck over to Chase and the Blondie line got the Dogs started!  1 to 2.  Braydon "almosted" next shift, but it would be the Blondie line again, with Brett finishing the play this time.  Tied.   Then at 3:50, Spencer made a nice play to Braydon, who had his stick on the ice and they made it 3 on the scoreboard.  Drive was feeling pressured. They couldn't keep the puck on their sticks, between Spencer, some fierce backchecking by Mitch and some nice stickwork by Dan.  In the final minute and bit, Clayton took a pass from Spencer, went down the ice and it was suddenly 4 to 2 at the end of the second period.

The Drive came back after the flooding with a mission.  They had a nice run themselves and snuck one by Tyson. 4 to 3.  Less than a minute later, Dogs responded with Clayton again moving the puck past their blueline and shot the puck to Mitch who passed to Braydon, who fired it in. 5 to 3.  Dogs would get a penalty and give the Drive an opportunity which they accepted by changing the score on the board again to 5 to 4.  IceDogs wanted to change  that board too.  Brad tried a run.  Clayton fired the cannon.  Brett was on his knees and still making shots.  Braydon brought out the superspeed.  Tyson made some awesome saves.  Despite all best efforts, it would be Milverton changing the board again, with 1:54 left in the third to tie the game and forcing us into overtime.

Overtime has been good to us.  Dan started them out with a great shot that rattled the goalie's cage and then Corson had a great snap, but their goalie had been facing the puck all night and stopped us.  Despite a fine game, the Dogs had one moment of disorganization at 7:20 and the Drive put the pedal to the metal and made it 5 to 6.  An exciting contest against a fine group of competitors!
