Time to catch up on a GREAT start to the 2014/2015 Season!!!
The Novice LL Red team sure have come together to
start the season off right.
First an Exhibition game against the Shallow Lake Lakers #2 team on Oct 18th leads to a 4-1 Victory for the Dogs. Team scoring done by Emmett H., Larkin G. and Avery D. Our team sure has shown what they are capable of!!!
Then off to Wiarton on October 25th for the 4th Annual Austin Holley Memorial Tournament for 3 Fun Filled, Nail Biting Games. A tournament to honor a young novice player from the Bruce Peninsula Hockey Community, Austin who passed away in 2010 from a brain aneurysm. It was a Fun and well-run Tournament for both the Novice Rep teams and LL teams with Skills competitions, Shoot out Competitions and lots of Hockey games. Our first game was Saturday Morning at 9 am vs Bruce Peninsula Northstars #1. Both teams were in it to win it and it certainly showed by the determination to try hard and get the goals. The final score was 2-1 for Arran-Elderslie, goals scored by Gavin H. and Dominick E. Every game the opposing team gets to select a MVP of the game and our truly amazing Goalie Noah aka “Fred” J. was chosen. Second Game came Saturday afternoon at 2:15 vs Shallow Lake Lakers #1. These two teams were very evenly matched and both also trying hard to win. This game ended in a 1-1 tie and was a good game all around. The only goal for A/E was scored by Lucas W. MVP of this game went to Spencer H. a hockey player that shows his talent being able to play forward and defense!! With the final scores tallied up and the points for and against figured out the A/E Novice LL Red team advanced to the Gold Medal match Sunday at 2:15 vs the Shallow Lake Lakers #2 team. Having just played this team in an exhibition game we knew it was going to be a hard fought game. After the 3 regulation periods the score was 3-3 and for the first time in the Austin Holley fall shoot out tournament history the Novice LL Gold medal game goes into Overtime. Talk about Nail Biting!!! Overtime consist of 4 on 4 for the first 2 minutes, 3 on 3 for the next 2 minutes and 1 on 1 for the last minute and if no one scores then it goes into a shoot out!! The Ice Dogs end up winning GOLD 4-3 in overtime. Goals for this game were scored by Larkin G, Avery D, Emmett H., and Lucas W. The MVP for this game goes to Lucas W. the one who finally ended the game giving all the parents and grandparent a sigh of relief. The whole team gave 100% and it showed. And boy did they look tired!!!
Finally we catch up with this past weekend where it was Hockey Day in Arran-Elderslie for an early morning 8am Game the day after Halloween against the A/E Novice LL White Team. The game was a great game and there was a lot of cheering from the stands and the bench. When you’re playing a game vs the same centre the chant “We’re red, We’re White We’re Dynamite Let’s Go Ice Dog’s Fight Fight Fight” goes for both teams so it showed that both teams were there to have a good game Win, Lose or in this case Tie doesn’t really matter as long as they had fun. The game ended at 1 goal a piece with the lone goal scored by Emmett H. Thanks to the A/E Minor Hockey Association for a great Hockey Day. All the kids had fun and forgot about their Halloween candy for a few hours.
AE Novice LL Red next practice is Thursday in Tara at 7pm and Sunday at 3pm in Paisley. It’s time to gear up for the next weekend as it is a 3 game weekend.
