What an end to a great season! 3 games + 3 shutouts=16 Gold medals!
Three shutouts makes it sound like a cakewalk but this tournament was anything but... Game one against Oakville started off just right with Jaydn W. getting the scoreboard started with 4 minutes remaining in first period. . Ashlynn S. and the defense held them off during a power play keeping the score at 1-0 through to the end the of the 2nd. Everyone gave it their best, however there were no more goals to be had in that game. Final Score 1-0 IceDogs!
Game 2 against Kent looked to be more of the same, however with one win under their belts the girls had gold in their sights! Sure enough after a scoreless first period Jaydn W found the back of the net after only two minutes of the second period. 2 minutes later she repeated the performance making the score 2-0 Icedogs. Before the 2nd period was done Natalie M brought the score up to 3. Kent worked hard but the girls prevailed and the third period was scoreless. Leaving the IceDogs with a 3-0 win to send them to the Gold Medal Final!
Spirits were high leading up to the God Medal Game against Ayr. Our IceDogs readied themselves for the final battle with warpaint and chanting!
Each girl gave it her all. The crowd was on edge at the end of the first period and the score was still 0-0. When at the end of the second period the score was still 0-0 they began checking the locations of the arena defibrillators. When the game ended and there was still no score some of the parents couldn't bring themselves to watch as Jaydn, Jessica and Emily took on the Ayr Goaltender and Ashlynn faced off in our net against 3 of Ayr's best shooters.
Shot one - Ashlynn makes it look easy and Jaydn flips the puck up into the Ayr Goaltenders pads.
Shot two - Again Ashlynn has her opponent beat and Jessica gets past the Ayr Goaltender!!
Shot three - Ashlynn reads her like a book and Emily scores a second goal for the IceDogs!
