IceDogs Outrun the Rebels
For the second game of our series with the Rebels, the IceDogs needed to go hard.  And they did!  Jason (#88) had a fantastic game and our whole squad played with their whole hearts.  It worked, Doggies!!   Final score: 4 to 6.  Series tied at one apiece.

IceDogs knew that they would have to skate like the wind and keep shooting at the goalie.  Our first shot on net was eight seconds into the game.  Then at 9:31, with a setup pass from (#25) Braydon, Jason (#88) gets his first point of an eleven point game for him.  The IceDogs were hot to get those points on the board and for a shift or two, they were snapping at each other to try their shot on that goalie.  Capitalizing on a bit of disorganization, Rebels get their first goal at 5:12 from that #3. (It is either their #3 or #15.)  Then, with a wild scramble in front of the Rebel goalie, and assists to (#6), Chayse and (#16) Austin, Jason (#88) put it away at 1:29.  The last minute and half of this period was insane!  Both teams were fired up!  Eleven seconds later, (#16) Austin scored for us, with a pass from (#88) Jason.  Then the Rebels answered with a goal with 49 seconds left and they scored again to tie the period at 3 even with 4 seconds left!  The crowd was howling!

Second period starts with Rebel pulling ahead, despite an awesome display of flexibility by Tyson.  Finally, we get our first powerplay and it almost produces a goal, except for a premature whistleblowing by the young ref.  We shook off that disappointment and got to work.  We gave them a brief powerplay during Mitch's turn in the box, but Rebels couldn't make use of it.  And what great plays we saw this whole game!  Our defense was putting themselves in the way. blocking shots right and left.  Corson took a wicked shot off the mask!    Bradley off the shin.  Danny, off the leg.  Chayse, the arm.  But they kept feeding the puck up to the wingers.  And the Dogs kept running to their net.  Finally it paid off with a last minute goal by (#88) Jason, from a pass from (#12) Clayton.  We were going to the third period tied at 4.

With a little bump, Jason (#88) was sent to the box but we killed that penalty with some great hockey.  There was a scary moment when Austin went down and didn't pop right back up.  But he was ok.   Rebels were looking to score that next goal, but Tyson kept stealing the puck from them.  At 8:12, Jason started working on his second hat trick with a storming up the ice, dragging a couple of Rebels with him, to score his fourth goal and our fifth.  Rebels try to respond but our goalie grabbed the puck right out of the air.   Rebels were ready and willing to go for it.  They pulled the goalie and started to lean on our goalie.  With only 41 second left, a play from (#16) Austin to (#13) Will who sends the puck towards their net, has Jason (#88) redirect it just enough to sneak it by their goalie, for our sixth goal!  We win by two.

Next game will be exciting!  I sense that the Rebels will be putting three players on our #88, which should free up our other players very nicely for some excellent opportunities when we next meet Alphabet soup on Groundhog's Day in Tara.
